Lil D and TheWordEyeHeard Presents CUPCAKES&COCKTAILS with #GIRLPOWERRADIO!!!

Okkkkk Soooooo when I was kindly asked to be a sponsor for an all female event…let's just say …I was very cautious. I mean just the thought of aroom full of women, most of whom I've never met before, can be a little intimidating. When I say "intimidating", I mean…women can be funny creatures. Often times women come equipped with the "who are you looking atscan you from top to bottom, and forcefully find some sort of flaw on another woman type defense mechanism". CocoZ The MixMistress  is 1 of the most  respected females in the city, so after a moment of thinking the worst I accepted the invitationCUPCAKES and COCKTAILS hosted by Lil D "thewordeyeheard" radio host on 107.9fm turned out to be far more that what I had ever expected!

Walking into Anatomy was entertainment at it's best! Maybe because I had that damn Charles Ramsey (yes…the hero) with me , muttering an abundance of off the wall nonsense in my ear all the way up to the door. Then again, soon as we entered we were greeted by a friendly female who offered us both 1 of those "HELLO My Name Is"name tags and a black sharpie. Me being the oh so "mature"person I am, was quick to scribble something offensive or corney on the name tag. The female greeting us just kept smiling so nicely, that I decided "Jenny, be professional" , and decided to write my name and company I represented. Crawling up the staircase to the rooftop where the event took place was dark. Yet again we were greeted by a refreshingly high spirited hostess, who handed us each 1 wooden token that was good for 1 free drink.

As I peeped my head 1st into the CUPCAKES and COCKTAILS event, then my body, I automatically noticed how sunny it was on the rooftop! I mean there were women all over the place! Each lady had a little sassy stroll, and everyone was dressed for the weather, sun dresses,  jeans and tanksshort skirtsheelsflats…each woman had her on individual style . The patio was open and the most perfect breeze joined the party. Cashing in my wooden token, I was given a "secret punch" and sat down. Looking next to me I realized I was sitting next to REALLY RASHIDA aka published novelist of her own book!!! Londyn Rae was seen flicking up, Ms.CREAMOFTHECROP was surrounded by all sorts of females .KICKAGIRL was doing interviews and doing a damn good job! Charles Ramsey didn't mind taking pics with all the ladies but quietly played the back on the bar, and the LEGENDARY KIM SELLERS graced the event with her extraordinary self!!!CocoZ played all the hits, and let's not forget the CUPCAKES and COCKTAILS!!!

As the event started to grow I noticed the smallest lady in the room. Well actually I noticed her dress 1st! It was neon orange, and had the cutest lil bow on the back. The fact that the woman was wearing blue heels with the dress, made me automatically respect her fashion sense and confidence. Lil D looked flawless (S/o to URBAN SOPHISTICATE STYLE *headroll fingasnap). Lil D was effortlesslysincere and passionate about CUPKCAKES and COCKTAILS. She reminded everyone to minglenetworkand tell their success storiesLil D made everyone on the rooftop feel accomplished andrespected. She introduced us to people in the city doing amazing things to help each other.Honestly I wasn't sure what Lil D would be like. Listening to her on the radio she is comically sarcastic, and brutally honest…a real wise cracker. Yet at CUPCAKES and COCKTAILSshe was serious, elegant and friendly, yet still added her touch of humor to lighten up the room.

Listening to Broken To Purpose , was the most moving part of the event  for myself. As a woman or even a man, we have felt broken before, and just really need someone to talk to. Broken To Purpose has great potential to be something extraordinary. I damn near had to throw my hands up in the air n wave em around like in church as Broken To Purpose was defined to us. Lil D spoke from the heart and showed great appreciation for East Cleveland Narrator where she is a columnist.. The event turned out to be more than just CUPCAKES and COCKTAILS. There was class, success, motivationaccomplishments, and talented women all on 1 rooftop. Thanks to Lil D, and #GIRLPOWERRADIO for a beautifulinspiring and uplifting event!!!XOXO

GIPBKR "SUCKA FREE" PARTY & CONCERT!!!!!!! * FLICKS

OkkkkkkSooooo when YOUNG SHONpersonally invited me to GIPBKR"SUCKA FREE" partyand concert I'll admit…I was a little hesitant. I mean it had been a minute since I had been out on the scene. I quickly perked up. I realized that this would be my first event of the NEW YEAR 2014!!!! The promo for the "SUCKA FREE" event was also inciting. As I panned over the flyer, I could feel my face kinda crack a smile. Seeingfamiliar names, and that PREMIER would be the venue of choice, I was at the mall in less than an hour making sure I looked right. GIPBKR has been known to throw some INSANE events, shows, and parties. Not to mention…(but I will).. they are also 1 of the biggest musical outlet internet radio stations in the city *headroll fingasnap!!!!

Walking into PREMIER …was like walking into a haunted house. Ya know…long skinny hallway at first, kinda dim…not sure what would be lurking around the corner. As I shuffled my way past the entrance and thru a door, I was pleasantly surprised!!! PREMIERwas dimly lit, the bar was clean and the air was warm and inviting.Looking straight ahead I noticed a bright , HUGE,shiny stage. There was a pole, and mirrors covered the walls. I was thinking…"damn it…I need dolla bills"…but then I realized that the stage was used for all types of performances. DJ BALL was warming up…and yes…he was rocking his super serious face! (luv ya)

People began to slowly ooze thru the door, and before I knew it…PREMIER was filled with sooooo many warm and friendly faces. Everyone who came seemed so cool and relaxed. It seemed like a family party,  and even Charles Ramsey stopped thru.

There were soooo many hugs being passed around. YOUNG SHON was on stage shooting scenes for his latest music video, SPITT MAGAZINE were making the flick rounds, KAYLA PALMENTERAhad her photo shop open, and all in all it seemed as though everyone was in good spirits.Speaking of "spirits"FLEXINTWONwas generously serving out glasses of his"SECRET STUFF"that's what I called it. Let's just say…ummmmmm….go easy when you get some….and no REGRETS!!!! *yeah it was that killer. There were some awesome performances from BIG SQUEEZE, and CRAZY8 along with many others.  Bummed I had to leave…only cuz my 9-5 was scheduled for the following day….so….I leave you with these flicks!!!!!!GIPBKR "SUCKA FREE"!!!! XOXO

THE OFFICIAL 2013 OHHA WHITE PARTY!!!!!!! *Pics Inside

Okkkkk Soooooooo 2013 was huge for "themed" parties!!!! Pajama, Beach, Free Boosie (okkkk I made that 1 up), Day After The Day Day Party Party, Glow , Foam, J's, 90's….you name it…we saw it!!! Yet 1 of the dopest parties that still makes me smile, had to mos def be the Ohio Hip Hop Awards White Party!!!!!

Now I'll admit…I usually become automatically bored when I hear a White Party is about to go down. Especially after Labor Day. I mean…call me a rebel….but I always wear white after labor day*headroll fingasnap. Yet for some reason white parties after the holiday…seem like we are all living some kinda fashion dangerous break the rule lives. When I checked my mail I saw Derrick McKenzie personally inviting me out to…an ALL WHITE PARTY. I didn't really need to think twice about this event, because with the OHHA fast approaching I knew this would be the pre-game leading up to rest of the festivities. I also learned that the party would be going down at CLUB EARTH…and that is always tempting. He promised me that there would be unforgettable performances from various artists.

Finding myself looking forward to the all white party…finally... I found myself in American Aparel searching for something all white. After all…all white means all white…DUHHHHHHHH (for those he didn't get the memo). I mean what's the fun in attending an all white event…if you plan on not participating in the theme. That being similar to people who attend costume parties…and don't wear a costume!!!!!!!! (JAKE aka WACK). Luckily I found the perfect outfit..and yes…it was all white!

Walking into CLUB EARTH was comforting. Derrick was at the door…greeting me and others as we talked junk to security and passed by the door girl. The party was mos def white!!!! Sure some people chose to rebel…just like the rest of us had by wearing white after Labor Day. It wasn't totally packed but the floor was covered with people, who seem to all feel pretty good, and be in great spirits. B SMOOTH was mingling with the ladies, CAINE was chillin , playing the bar and J GRAIE looked AMAZING!!!! There were some dope performances from J GRAIE and MOOKIE MOTONIO, AFINITI,and more!!!! The White Party was smooth, chill, and crisp….with all the white. AFINITI mos def showed out!!!! She was spitting off the top of her head for about 10 mins straight!!!! Straight Flexin!!!! I found myself smiling a lot….because I had successfully wore an all white outfit without spilling something on it. Check out these dope pics from the OHHA ALL WHITE PARTY 2013!!!! XOXO

RIP LORD INFAMOUS - FRAYSER BOY "SEEN THANGS"

When I heard Lord Infamous passed away (RIP) …it tripped me out. because he was still so young, and 2…because he was a legit legendary hit maker. Frayser Boy "SEEN THANGS"is 1 of my favorite songs. The beat sounds so BAY n DEEP SOUTH …n the whole song is so trill…speaking for myself…I haven't did all of what is said in the song…but I've seen some things I wasn't suppose to see, n I've been places  knowing I wasn't suppose to beyeah I know that everyday is a constant grind…how can you ever tell the truth if you're constantly lying…ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh….let's listen to 1 of the realist songs everRIP LORD INFAMOUS! XOXO

TOP OF THE WORLD INTRODUCES ...ELVIS FRESHLY!!! EXCLUSIVE FRESH INTERVIEW!!!

Okkkkkkkkksooooooo when I stepped into the TOP OF THE WORLD STUDIO, I was in total studio shock!!! The  studio was immaculate! I mean...the floor was even clean...so clean..that if you happened to drop a fry with sauce from Hot Sauce Williams...you could mos def apply the 5 second rule before picking it up and eating it. Of course when I walked in I noticed some pre-acquainted faces. As I panned around I noticed a guy who almost blended into the walls ,he was sitting so still...*I still have no idea who he was...but he resembled a cool hippie with rockstar hair. I sat down on the worlds most comfy couch. Well actually I sank into the comfy couch...yeah its that damn comfy. Just when I was thinking..."damnnnnn TOP OF THE WORLD is capable of almost everything 1 artist may need"....the door opened slowly and in walked ELVIS FRESHLY!!!!! I remember seeing him at the Ohio Hip Hop Awards...shoutout to his "take me serious" outfit at the awards!!!!! This time ELVIS FRESHLY seemed more ...relaxed. He didn't really say much...I was thinking..."uh ohhhhhhh not another lightskin dude acting all anti-social...".

"It's a difference between knowing something is going to happen...and it really happening."- Elvis Freshly

I was in the process of interviewing everyone affiliated with TOP OF THE WORLD STUDIO's. When I was ready for ELVIS FRESHLY...he quietly pulled up a chair...sat down...and became alive!. I mean...yes...he's easy on the eyes ladies...but at the same time...just from his posture alone...I could tell he demanded respect. I'm never really star struck...but I must say...I was in awe of ELVIS FRESHLY. I mean right before me...was the dude who had a logo he created...made into a HUGE ICE SCULPTURE!!!! (*How many of you can add that to your list of accomplishments...*crickets)  He spoke clearly and from his convo I could tell that he really believed in himself as well as his product that he was offeringELVIS FRESHLY is 1 of the most sought after graphic designers in the city. If you've seen a party flyer...or any kinda promo....it probably was created by ELVIS FRESHLY...only if it's dope...only....if it's dope!

Q. How did you become affiliated with TOP OF THE WORLD?
A. I was working with a few artists who would come by the studio, Josh and I got cool after the 1st time we met. He kept seeing my work, I kept coming to the studio...experiencing everything, watching him work, hearing his music in different places. I got the call 1 day like "look, I'm tryna expand", and he said that I was the graphic designer he was tryna work with. Eventually we got it all worked out.....now it's 1 big family.

Q. How long have you been with TOP OF THE WORLD?
A. Officially a few months now, I've known Josh for about a year or 2+, we just started working together right before the Ohio Hip Hop Awards.

Q. How did you get started with graphic design?
A. I was actually deployed over in Afghanistan, I bought a copy of photoshop for like $1.50 from a lil Afghan kid and I took it over to my computer. It's  like if you're over in Afghanistan and you're not working on something....you just straight hot and bored. So I started messing around with the program and a couple of people asked me for stuff...over time I had a business that people were willing to pay me ...so I started to sell my work.

Q. How long were you in Afghanistan?
A. 1 year

Q. What was it like?
A. Hot...really hot...and no fun at all.

Q.Do they listen to alot of hip hop in Afghanistan?
A. No...they don't to any of the kind of music we listen to for real...There may be 1 person around that may have heard hip hop...but other than that...no...they didn't even have a radio anyways to listen even if they had it.

Q. REALLY?
A. It's nothing like what you see on t.v or movies.....trust me....it's not where you want to be.

Q. So when you came back to the States, did you decide that Graphic Design is what you wanted to pursue?
A. I didn't really think it was something I was going to do. It was just something that I enjoyed doing, and I knew some friends who knew some friends, and so I started doing some nightclub work. That's how I initially started...after the nightclub work, artists started to hit me up, then I linked with TOP OF THE WORLD and now we are #1 for artists needs in OHIO.

Q. What were some of the first flyers you created and who were they for?
A. The 1st nightclubs I did was for CREAM TEAM PARTIES. S/O to BEE WARD. He was the 1st person who actually gave me $$$ for a design. That was the 1st person to really put me in the game.

Q.What equipment or programs do you use for Graphic Design..that you just have to have?
A. I don't wanna say everything you have to have lol...but I will tell you to invest in Adobe Creative Suite. I'm not gonna tell you which programs I personally use, but the Adobe...wether you steal it or buy it..GET IT! If your not using that then your designs aren't worth selling.

*property of Chris Good

Q. What do you do to make your flyers stand out amongst everyone else's?
A. STUDY!!!!! I study designers from everywhere, Japanese, Australia...if you look at what I "like" or who I'm friends with on Facebook you will see it's people and things from all over the world....I've been doing alot of stuff lately by hand.

Q.Do people try and copy your style?
A. ALL THE TIME!!!! It's plenty of dudes out here that go behind my back , call my customers, try to undercut me...but it's not about the cheapest price, or the friendliest guy...cuz...I'm really not the friendliest dude in the world. It's just about doing better work...do better work...and my customers will come to you.

Q. Which is the most creative project for you to work on..Logos, Website, or Flyers?

A. Hip Hop branding...if I get a chance to work with an artist and design your logo, work on the flyer, promo for your cd...I enjoy doing that cuz I feel like I'm building the brand with you. Everything the world see's coming from you is also coming from me. I like doing local business projects as well cuz all hip hop designs aren't good. I like the real professional stuff as well.

Q. Do you think the old CD covers from back in the day with champagne bottles, barking dogs, and cars will come back in style?
A. Hahahaha nawwww, they used to be dope....but you gotta move forward.

Q.Is there a big record label or corporation who you would love to design for?
A. I'd like to make a design for G.O.O.D music, just cuz you've got people looking at it, the way they are looking at it...and the person who would actually be paying for it would be Mr.West.

Q. When you say "look at it"...How do you want people to look at your work?
A. If you say you want your flyer to look old school, people in yellow pajamas, I'm gonna make the people feel like that. I'ma give your audience what they want so you can make $$$, so you can pay me, I want you to make what you paid me plus more!

Q. Do all of your clients come back?
A. A majority of them do. There's always that 1 that doesn't, but I dunno...if you need 1 design or 100..I'll work with you.

Q.Do you find it difficult to be the "nice guy" in the business?
A. There is nothing wrong with being nice, but there is a certain line to it. It took me a long time to understand it. I mean..coming up my designs were stolen from me, people didn't want to pay me for my work...stuff you just go through and learn. That's when I had to start treating my business like a business. So I'm like business now....friendship later.

Q. Which artists from Cleveland have you provided work for..where you said "yeah..this came out dope"?
A. I did a mixtape cover for Dj Xplosive, Rock Boy Radio, it did like 18,000 views jus like that!!! Twitter was goin crazy! Most people had it as their default pic, I had a good time jus watching that happen. The TOP OF THE WORLD logo...is my new favorite! It's everywhere, even in an ice sculpture!

Q. What was it like seeing the logo you created in an ice sculpture?
A. It was AMAZING!!! INCREDIBLE!!! I jus wanted everyone to take pics of it hahaha, my phone was acting up so I was making sure everyone took pics! I mean I knew it was going to happen...but it's a difference between knowing something is going to happen...and it really happening.

Q. How will people get in touch with you?
A. If you need an album cover, promo, or logo for your label 440-855-1519..I do freelance work too.

Mannnnnnn..as ELVIS FRESHLY finished up, he looked at me with the most serious face ever....like..."yeah..I'm great". Then he quickly flashed a smile...it wasn't a condescending smile...it was more like a sincerely genuine smile. He had caught my facial reaction...just when I was thinking..."wow...h'es so serious...but...he's so official"...that's when he smiled and as if to show me....he was all business ...but he wasn't the bad guy. I'm usually turned off by people who seem to be overly confident...while lacking any sort of talent or skill to back up their enlarged ego. ELVIS FRESHLY made me feel the total opposite. After stalking his website  http://elfreshly.com and  the logo he created for TOP OF THE WORLD...ELVIS FRESHLY is most deserving of his confidence and praise that he receives from his work.Providing the city with classic clean lines, and products that scream A-1 quality, he has flipped the promo, and graphic design game TOTALLY!!! Just when some of you may have been thinking...*hell...I can make my own flyers at tha crib....then you happen to notice artwork or promo by ELVIS FRESHLY...that will have you questioning ...your own amateur skills. In the end..TOP OF THE WORLD screams "QUALITY"!!!! With more artists quickly learning and accepting the value...in high quality work...more and more people are respecting ELVIS FRESHLY and what it is he is able to accomplish. Unlike some other graphic designers...he is willing to be a part of your vision. He isn't trying to takeover your vision and make it his own, he's finds pleasure in helping you create something that will be a part of your brand forever. THAT's FRESH!!! XOXO

TOP OF THE WORLD - INTRODUCES MATT MAUNUS *Exclusive Interview!!!

Okkkkk Sooooo when I was 1st invited to the "TOP OF THE WORLD" studio, I wassuper stoked!!!!  Only because they have been 1 of the biggest influences in the music industry...especially inCLEVELAND!!!!! When I opened the door leading into the ultra swanky studio I felt somewhat overwhelmed by all the faces that were smiling at me as soon as I was securely in. Josh Maunus...aka Big brother was more quiet like, ...maybe a lil camera shy...but very polite. So when it was Matt Maunus turn to sit in the Sparkplug Ent interview chair (*no it's not an actual chair...but more of an actual vibe...don't worry...you'll have a turn soon...xoxo) I was curious to see if he was anything like his brother. Matt Maunus is a breath of fresh air!!!!!! (Like good air...good clean crisp "loud" air) I must admit, I was kinda expecting the "lil brother" to be the shy one, the passive one. Yet as soon as Matt Maunus sat down he took complete control!!!!! His voice was deep and strong....and yes... both Maunus bros talk almost exactly alike. Matt Maunus was leaned backrocking in the chair. I was thinking "uhhh ohhh is he like some kinda "cool guy"?". Just when I felt I was gonna  turn my nose up, and roll my eyes....I smiled. Matt Maunus is genuinely that "cool guy". It was far from an act. His whole conversation was positiveconfident, and excited!!! He has a way of gently bringing you into his convo, he spoke with such confidence I couldn't help but think he could be a salesman, or mos def a leader of a corporation. Like if he was to say "listen up"...you would find yourself listening. Matt Maunus is FUN!!!! He showed no signs of being nervous, and he reminded me of ZAK MORRIS from saved by the bell. Ya know the cool dude in school, silly, fun, and just good peoples.

Q.When did you join Top Of The World?
A. I've been with Top Of The World since birth....I mean me and my brother have always worked on music together, ever since I was younger, Josh would be in his room making music, I used to see everyone's reaction from the music, and people always wanted to be a part of what was going on, seeing that as a kid I was like "that's cool, I wanna do that too".

Q. What's your title?
A. Producer/ Sound Engineer

Q. How did you get started?
A. I actually used to rap a long time ago!

Q. What was your rap name?
A. Ummmmm I really didn't have 1.....

Q. Wait...so your name was just "Matt The Rapper"?
A. Hahahahahahah nooooooooo

Q. What beats did you use?
A. We used to rap over industry tracks, sound click wasn't available, and there wasn't alot of home producers where we could get exclusive beats from. We Would rap over 50 cent, DIPSET instrumentals..I finally decided I wanted to make something exclusive for myself.

Q. So were you like f*ck it, I'ma make my own sh*t?
A. YUP!!!!! I was like "F*ck I'ma make my own sh*t"

Q. How did you learn how to put it all together, producing can be difficult?
A. I had a lil training, not to mention I was in 5th grade band...and as corney as that sounds, it helped alot cuz I learned how to count measures, time signatures, formatting of songs and stuff like that. My mom played piano , and my dad was heavy on the guitar, and Josh always had a studio...so music is a natural step for me.

Q. What was the 1sn't the best beat ever...but it was called "MOUTHPIECE"...S/o to MIDNIGHT...

Q. How would you describe the growth with TOP OF THE WORLD within the last year?
A. AWESOME!!!!!!!! It's been crazy, I mean word of mouth has spread so quickly, and we try and provide the best services...for everybody.

Q. What was your experience like at the Ohio Hip Hop Awards this year?
A. Unbelievable!!!! It was crazy seeing the logo that we started with...in an ice sculpture...man that was insane...f*ckin insane!!!!!!

Q. Do you and your brother work on projects together?
A. Of course, see I just used to be head
producer, but it got to a point where many people had dates on projects, and Josh was working 12hr days...it was killin him. So I decided to take it serious, sat down, learned some of the techniques that Josh uses, and yeah...Josh pretty much trained me on how to be an engineer.

Q. What do you look for in an artist when they come to TOP OF THE WORLD?
A. It's always nice when an artist has a vision. It's really nice when they have an idea of what they would like to record, instead of just writing and saying, "aight im'a jus go lay it down", it's a pleasure working with people who understand the formatting of a song.

Q. Why are some of the producers you are inspired by?
A. WHOA!!! Alot of people!!! I grew up listening to rap music all of the time. Soooo it's alot of Dr. Dre, Timbaland, and most of the big name producers who created their own sound.

Q. How do you feel when you hear a song you produced thats really hot?
A. It's a GREAT feeling!!!!! IT'S really cool seeing positive feedback from something you've created.

Q. How'd you pick "EXTRA PAPER" for SHUICIDE?
A. I had heard a song off 1 of his "Kickgame" mixtapes that Josh had played me. He was 1 of the 1st artists who came thru and I was like "this is really goin somewhere" , It was different from all the everyday stuff you usually hear, so I brought SHU thru, told him to pick a beat...complimentary, and he just happened to pick "EXTRA PAPER" beat.

Q. So does the whole TOP OF THE WORLD work together on projects?
A. YES!!!! We all work together, we all work on different projects, but we still like to come together collectively .....3 heads are better than 1 !!!!!

Q. Would you like to give any S/o's?

A. Hell yeah! S/o to anyone who's worked with us, and supported us....King Cobra, Mookie, Shu, all the people who are rockin with us... pushin the movement, S/o to the OHHA panel for having us, sponsoring the event...it was an awesome time.

After our interview ended....and I finally stop giggling like some kinda "Lisa Turtle" from Saved By The Bell...Matt Maunus pushed his chair back and thanked me. I noticed that for him to be the younger brother....he was very gracious and sweet. He totally admires his older brother, and at times when he would speak of TOP OF THE WORLD...he would say "My brother and I"...and then quickly he would look around and name the other members. He was proud when he said "it's not jus us anymore...we have a whole team"....and when he would say that his eyes would light up and he seemed very happy to have a new family. I had a chance to watch Matt Maunus work in the studio with new talent. He was patient and very accommodating. He took his time searching beats, he had an actual musical consultation for the artist, he was a host, and just an all around cool guy to be around, especially if you are ever at the "TOP OF THE WORLD"!!! XOXO

EXCLUSIVE!!!! TOP OF THE WORLD RECORDING STUDIO!!!!! - JOSH MAUNUS!!!

Okkkkkk Sooooo I would never say I've been around the block...(so cliche, and plus..what kinda lady do you think I am?), but I have seen a lot, and have even been in some not so kosher situations in this music industry. I've met many people who would have cut off their arms just to prove they were a legit company, or had an artists best interests atheart. Let's just say...there should be some armless people walking around CLEVELAND right now. In the end 1 does not need to sacrifice body partsor swear upon GOD or the Illuminati (*if that's what you rep) just to prove how "real"they may be, or how professional their team is. 1 does not need to pull out all the smoke and lights just to show you the quality of their work. If the services that you are offering, are of the dopest highest quality, and you have a finished product that is asolid representation of yourself as well as your company...then that alone will speak for itself.

I was beginning to grow weary in CLEVELAND. To watch soooo many artists struggle with direction, consistency, and production is overwhelming. There were times when people would hit me up, in hopes offinding everything they needed...in 1 outlet, to help them make it to the next level. (*It's levels to dis sh*t...hehehe)I would always fall short, providing the most confusing directorial, and not to mention usually having the artist hitting up every corner of the city before completing their project.

Just when I thought all hope was lost, I began to notice TOP OF THE WORLD's logo....it was everywhere!!!! It started when I heard SHUICIDE HOLLA's Freshmen Year.I heard "TOP OF THE WORLD" belting out! Next I would casually hear various artists say "Dude I gotta go to my session at TOP OF THE WORLD", after that it was like a snowball effect!!!(*Have you ever noticed that you never notice the kind of car you drive on the street, until you or someone you know drives that car.)  From the OHIO HIP HOP AWARDS, where they were 1 of it's biggest sponsors...I mean we're talkin ice sculpturesTop Of The World T'sdope videos, graphics, and even marketing... like a friggin multi-music media outlet!!!!!

When JOSH MAUNUS officially invited me to TOP OF THE WORLD STUDIOS, I couldn't wait!!!!! I finally had a chance to see the hit factory for myself!!!!! When I pulled up to the studio I was thinking..."okkkkk...uhhh ohhhh...not another house/studio". I mean how many of these make shift studios can 1 chic see in a lifetime? I was surprised ,almost astonished!!!! The studio was a REAL studio!!! I'M TALKIN HIGHEST QUALITY ERTHANG!!!!! It was cool inside (*ummm central air people ...duhhhhh *take notes), it was immaculate as well (aint no mild bs all over the floor, or crusty cups ), the air seemed filtered (not a trace of stale smoke), and it was spacious and comfy"Sooooooooo"...I thought to myself..."this is what high quality is like".....I pushed open 2nd door and found JOSH MAUNUS waiting with a smile......

Q. How long has Top Of The World been a company?
A. Really about 6 yrs, but officially about 2 yrs

Q. What were you doing before Top Of The World?
A. I was bartending

Q. Your a professional Mixologist?
A. Yup!!! Double mixologist, sound and drinks

Q. Where did you bartend?
A. EVERYWHERE

Q. How long have you been doing music?
A. Welll maybe since about 12, I mean that's when I got my 1st keyboards etc.

Q. How'd you start Top Of The World?
A. I was just living in  Cleveland a lil while, I was on the 16th floor of a building and I could see alll the lights over the city, and I thought..."I feel like I'm on top of the world", so I decided to call my company ...TOP OF THE WORLD

Q.Who'd you start your company with?
A. Well it was just me, well me and my lil brother Matt

Q. When you describe Top Of The World as "being outside of the box", what does that mean?
A. Top Of The World offers a lil extra, we offer the highest quality of any service, with a fraction of the price. We are more into quality, excellent quality for the artists.

Q.What is all "in house"?
A. I mean...we can provide beats, videos, marketing, graphics, everything you need out of 1 outlet...TOP OF THE WORLD

Q.Do you feel an artist needs some kind of budget?
A. YES! You have to treat everything like a business, at all times. I mean we have all had to cut corners before, hell I've had to cut corners before, but you have to pick and choose where you put your money.

Q.What does an artist have to have for you to work with them?
A. Acceptable music, and mos def a vision. Every artists needs a vision.

Q.Do you ever deny an artist stdio time or any of your services?
A. No, I'm a sound engineer, my job is to make you sound better, everything won't be a hit, but it will mos def sound better.

Q.How many artists have you worked with?
A. 300

Q. How many songs have you cranked out?
A. Ummmmmm close to 3000!!!

Q.Who all do you have on the Top Of The World Team?
A. Well we've got Coach K, Elvis Freshly, Ced Lynch, Derrick, Matt, and just recently Brett Vance joined the team...all in house !!!! It's like a factory.

Q.How do you stay neutral when working with artists who may not get along with each other?
A. At the end of the day it's 100% business, I will provide the best sound for you and your opponent, there will always be a loser, but I'm just the man in the middle tryna make it sound good.

Q. What were the OHHA for you like this year?
A. It was amazing, I mean overwhelming, cool to be a sponsor, and we had a dope ice sculpture...it was unreal. It was cool to see artists that we'e worked with finally getting the recognition they deserve. I like to call it the new generation. There was a generation gap for awhile....

Q. Which artists are you referring to?
A. Caine, Mookie Motonio, King Cobra...they are all doing shows now, and their music is getting plays.

Q. What was it like being asked to be on the speaking panel for OHHA?
A. LOL!!! It was cool, I mean people always ask me questions and I try my best to answer them, but in the end, I don't know all the answers I'm still tryna figure stuff out myself...

Q.What other kinds of music do you enjoy?
A. I love anything with a melody, still not into country that much but if it has a melody...I can dig it.

Q. What exactly is a sound engineer?
A. I will take a sound and add a few chops, maybe some harmonies that weren't there before, synthesize it, and make it sound amazing.

Q. Sooooo since you produce sound and beats do you always here beats constantly in your head?
A. YEAH!!!!! I GOT PROBLEMS!!!! I can be driving down the street and the windsheild wipers will be going and then I come up with a beat.

Q. Why do you feel artists migrate towards TOP OF THE WORLD STUDIO's"
A. Probably because we are a relaxed studio, I mean we kick it, still get sh*t done, but we don't try and have you feeling awkward while you are here, this is not a stuffy studio...no way.

Q.Who do you look up to in the industry?
A. Mos def Young Yonny, he's been showing me alot, I mean dude just did a #1  hit for Justin Beiber...somethig like 7,000,000 plays in a day...whew....

Q. Who would you like to work with in the future?
A. HAHAHAHA JUSTIN BEIBER!!!! Hit me up Justin!!!!! 440-855-1519

Q.When you built your studio what was your 1st must have pieces of equipment?

A. Pro-Tools HD!!!! Oh and high quality miss, you gotta invest in excellent mics.

Q.WHY?
A. It's the industry standard, you have to be able to call yourself a "professional studio".

Q.Would you like to give a S/O to anyone?

A. YES!!!! I'd like to thank all the artists who have worked with us, and thank you for trusting me with your songs, I kno ow intimate of a thing it is for an artist to share their talent with the world and I am appreciate you trusting me with your vision.

I can admit...as I interviewed JOSH MAUNUS....I looked for some sort of crack in this industry mogul. I was almost waiting for 1 of the team members to show some sign of frustration, maybe even a sarcastic face or hell...even some kinda of ego trip....but I couldnt' see anything that would suggest any sort of negative vibe. Instead I noticed that TOP OF THE WORLD...was the exact opposite of negative. It was almost as if I  had overdosed on positivity!!! I  mean the whole
team casually supported each other as 1 by 1 they were interviewed. I mean damn....I've seen artists perform on stage and their so called crew would dip soon after or even at times a lil before the set...out of jealousy, frustration or lack of patience. TOP OF THE WORLD's team is so solid...as well as legit. piggy backing off what the next person was doing. It was like silent team work.I sat in awe....secretly feeling a lil jelly myself...realizing that this in front of me is what real teamwork is about. They took flicks, shot video, and created the most amazing creative vibe in 1 room ever.

I mean JOSH MAUNUS pregnant wife ...was bustling about making sure the whole team was feed well... pregnant and all. Derrick was doing numbersElvis was brainstorming ideas for graphicsCed was shooting footage with Coach, Matt was listening to beats, and Brett (purple films) was working quietly as well editng videos. I noticed that they didn't try and over crowd each other, but every so often would check on each other...with some kinda positive reinforcement.I may not have been 16 floors up, but I looked around and realized.. I was at the "TOP OF THE WORLD"!!! XOXO

SHUICIDE HOLLA "THE KENT STAGE" PT.2

Okkkkkk Sooooooo when SHUICIDE HOLLAdecided to do another show in Kent it was a no brainer that I would be there. Not just because at his last show aka the "TRILOGY"  he did 3 separate sets, but I was curious and excited to see Dj NOMADIC make his debut appearance as SHUICIDE's formal DJ!!!!! The KENT STAGE is a dope venue, and almost predicting that  SHUICIDE HOLLA'sperformance would be incredible...I was not disappointed. Ususally when an artist has already established himself with hit after hit, they tend to ride the wave of music that is already known. Music that everyone alreadys knows every word to. Yet SHUICIDE HOLLA is so confident in himself and his loyal fan base, that he took a chance, gathered all of his fans in 1 venue, and just when they and even myself were waiting to hear what we had already heard....he decided to share basically all new music off his new S.H.U ALBUM!!!!!!! He took his time easing his fans into his story.

He gave small intros, and details about each song and where it originated from within himself. Not to mention that he has mastered the way of pluggin self-promo, gently embedding his website into your  mind (*without being overbearing). Surprisingly his fans embraced the whole entire set and Dj NOMADIC seemed to vibe effortlessly with SHUICIDE himself. Dj NOMADIC seem to come out of his quiet exterior and turned allll the way up!!!!!! Seeing SHUICIDEand Dj NOMADIC join forces was pleasurable and fun!!!!! I decided to show you what I saw....how I saw it...from the lens in my camera. XOXO

2013 OHIO HIP HOP AWARDS RECAP!!!!!!!

Okkkkk Soooooo when I heard that the 2013 OHHA(Ohio Hip Hop Awards) were going to be in CLEVELAND this year I was excited....but then I was a lil sad, only cuz I had soooo much fun in Columbus last year. I was super stoked that the OHHA would be returningback to my city, but the venue last year was soooo nice I couldn't imagine it being anywhere else. love CLEVELAND,(*admit it...so do you) but as I drove thru the city I would catch myself looking at different places that had OHHA potential. I finally gave up and decided to just wait and see what the OHHA had come up with. So imagine how surprised I was when I found out that the 2013 OHHA were goin to be held at the friggin STATE THEATER!!!!! Like wtffffffffffff!!!!!!! In case you aren't from CLEVELAND (*which would totally suck, and yes before you even ask...I know BONE) the THEATER DISTRICT is 1 of the country's most famous theater districts ever!!!!! I mean I've seen  numerous Broadway classics (*s/o to my mom for providing me with many diverse cultural experiences). I mean when you drive thru the THEATER DISTRICT you can see the millions of dollars the city has put into revamping and updating the strip. ITS AMAZING!!!!!!!!

I must admit... I was a lil skeptical when I heard that this was really about to happen. I mean for the OHHA being able to bookthe STATE THEATER is a HUGE DEAL!!!! I can't really think of a time when the theater had a full "hip-hop" awards show held inside. The day of the actual awards show I had my media pass hanging from my neck, camera ready, all dat...and as I pushed open the heavy glass doors and walked inside I was thinking "I have a feeling someone is gonna stop me like...heyyyyy you can't be in here". Yet as I turned a corner in a long hallway I saw Zaire waiting for me with the rest of media!!! I looked up to the ceilings and all around the walls....yup...this was mos def the spot!!!!

The STATE THEATER reminded me of an old theater , or maybe what the Royal Palace might look like inside. There were 2 huge staircases on both sides , and 2 of the dopest ice sculptors ever leading up to the Media Outlets. I climbed, and climbed and finally reached the top where everyone was posting up. I mean gud lawd, I saw Girl Power RadioBru Martin from #LibrascaleSpitt MagazineHood Illustrated and hella of other media were present. Artists started to stroll in, of course some were "cool late", and some were newbies...1st time nominees who's looked sooooooo excited that it made me happy for them.

Everyone seemed stoked, and cool at the same time. Ya know people were trying not to look nervous or to pumped. Yet I could see that we were all ready to hear who finally won!!!! Needless to say I snapped hella flicks, and ustreamed the whole red carpet (yeah check it out). Once media started to pack up everyone was ushered into the actual theater. Then.....the 2013 OHHA began to proceed!!!!

They should get some balloons or smoke or something on the stage

Awwwww its over....

After the OHHA show ended we all filed out of the STATE THEATER.Those who won carried their plaques just like new born babies damn near. Those who lost and fskw were in small huddles with their teams discussing the many conspiracy theories of why they were snubbed. The lobby was filled with congratulationsmaybe next years, and damnnnnn you look goods! All in all the 2013 OHHA were a success. Sure there will always be technical difficulties, and certain things that can be tweeked for next year, but we will have to wait til next year to do it. I'd like to thank the OHHA board for allowing us to be a part of this ceremony and epic venue. I mean how many of us will ever be able to say, "I performed, or won an award in the STATE THEATER"!!!!!!!!!! EXACTLY!!!! XOXO

PEABODY"S PRESENTS CORY GUNZ!!!!!!!!!!

Okkkkkkk Soooooowhen I heard CORY GUNZ was coming to CLEVELAND, I'll admit...I didn't believe it. I mean saying CORY GUNZ name....always involved the phrase..."What ever happened to...Cory Gunz?". Now I"m not saying CORY GUNZever "fell off"(cuz we'd hear him as a feature here and there)...but he did seem to take a small hiatus. It's 1 thing to leave the game while your still on top. It's another thing to leave the game at the bottom. CORY GUNZ was hot, I mean yeah we were all infatuated with his show on MTV where he basically was tryna choose between Nick Cannon, and Young Money to sign with. (*Let's face it...the suspense was killin us) So when the official invite came thru my email I was curious and even a little excited to actually have the chance to see CORY GUNZ perform live in the flesh. Especially performing at Peabody's! I always say I enjoy Peabody's , cuz it's bigger than small, and it just smells like Good Music.

When I walked into Peabody's the crowd was quaint...and intimate. The floor was covered with concert goers, but it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Usually you have to sit through hella opening acts before the headliner performs. Yet this show seemed to move swift and with ease. I scanned the room to see if I could catch a glimpse of CORY GUNZ. I had panned the whole room before I looked up at the stage and noticed that he had stepped on it. There was nothing really about him that screamed "I'm tha sh*t!!! I mean he seemed quiet, maybe he was slowed down a lil...his eyes moved slow, and everything about him seemed effortless. (He had a few people around him, but not the annoying amount of extra people, just around tryna be extra.)His white tee was only worn for about 5 mins, before it was removed...leaving CORY GUNZ in a wife beater and ridiculous chain! It's like as soon as he grabbed the mic he became another person. His eyes were closed for a majority of his performance. It's like he was totally zoned out! I was thinking "damnnnnn this is really CORY GUNZ live in front of me!!?!!" As I looked around to see the other reactions from all the fans...I noticed some of the male concert goers were a lil stand-offish. I wasn't sure if it was because they may have been intmidated by CORY GUNZ real jewels compared to some of their ..."mall jewelry", or maybe that male ego had them feeling some type way. (*yeah I said it)
Just when I thought I was over analyzing the situationCORY GUNZ stopped the show, looked dead into the crowd...and basically said something to likes of "What n*gga wan with me". Then if that wasn't enough he jumped off the stage right into the crowd!!!! I mean dude had on heavy jewels and was solo-dolo *headroll fingasnap. I watched CORY GUNZ walk right up to random dudes, and him being way shorter than most people...he seemed like a giant! I mean he literally stood chest to chest with almost everyone in the room , looking people dead in the eyes like "I dare 1 of you to try me". I must say I was a lil nervous. Cuz I'm fromCLEVELAND, and I know fo fact that there is usually 1 dude in the crowd that will try to do something insane. Yet the crowd seemed to loosen up, and the dudes that were stand-offish seemed to uncross their arms, relax a lil, and started to bob their heads. It's like before CORY GUNZ really started to go in...he made sure that his audience respected him and that he had our full undivided attention!!
After that...it was game on!!!! CORY GUNZ went all the way innnnnnnnnn!!! More than half of his show was show performed in the middle of the floor right with the crowd!!!! Just when people thought "this dude is zoned  out, he's fried"...CORY GUNZ  heard  "Milli" beat drop and let's just say...he showed dat as*!!!! He kept saying  to the dj  "speed it up, speed it up!!!". He did his verse triple times faster than the original!!!! Proving that he was totally focused, and all the way right.I still can't get over how fast he was going!!! The show was AMAZING!!!! Everytime CORY GUNZ stood next to me, hugged me (*yeah he showed love) or even jus walked by , my nostrils grew big!!!! Even though he was dressed casually...I must say ... CORY GUNZ...smelled like a million bucks!!! (* I wish I knew what he was wearing!) I can still smell him!!!! He was extra fresh...he even had some of the healthiest cuticles I've ever seen!!! After the show ended he took flicks with fans, and was very approachable. Walking into Peabody's some of us shared the same thought..."mannn where has CORY GUNZ been, what is he up to?". Leaving the show we all shared the same thought "Damnnn CORY GUNZ is the truth!!!!!" He left us with new music in our ears, and new found respect for him!!!! CORY GUNZ!!!!! XOXO

THE GROG SHOP PRESENTS DOPE MUSIC+GOOD CAUSE!!!!!

Okkkkkk Soooooo 1 day during the fill-in, on my full-set (*S/o to Fantasy Nails!) I got a text. My nails were almost dry...but I didn't wanna risk the chance of me messing them up, by being thirsty to see who was texting me. Yet...my addiction to my phone got the best of me...and  so I opened the text...and mannnnnnnn was I  glad that I did!!!! ADUBB DA GAWD text read something like "I'ma be in your city". I mean normally ...I would yawn and my thoughts would navigate towards something or someone else. Yet ADUBB using so few words...meant a lot!!!! In case you weren't familiar with ADUBB...*I will inform you...he's SO DAMN TRILL!!!! I mean he has been holding Big SeanFINALLY FAMOUS, and his own damn self down for the longest!!! You know the guy in a crew, that makes alot of noise, but you never hear nothing? Yeah...well....that's far from ADUBB. Since FINALLY FAMOUSstarted making noise he's done nothing but push and go hard for the team. Slowly as time progressed , I noticed ADUBB kinda, stepping towards the front. He was coming with his own musichis own styleand mos def his own sound. Being the twitter stalker that I am (*yeah...guilty as charged)  I ran across hella crazy B.S 1 day. ADUBB had been in a horrific motorcycle accident!!!! I mean he was almost down for the count!!! Yet when I hit him up to make sure he was going to be alright...ADUBB was his usual selfStill talking sh*tstill pumped for no reason, still yelling FINALLY FAMOUSand talking about how soon as he was right...he was gonna make sure he wore a helmet next timeADUBB is a maniac!!!! He's rebelliouswildand talented...all at the same damn time!!! So I knew him coming to CLEVELAND...meant that he had some fire as* music to share with the city.
Slowly afterwards I started seeing promo for the show ADUBB was performing . I had to do a double take when I noticed PAPER PAULK was also going to be performing! I had heard alot about this PAPER PAULK dude, STREET DREAMING was being rocked , and I was curious to see for myself exactly what he was aboutHUMBLE G THA FIDDLA was also said to be performing! *If ya'll aint know...he's the dopest dude on a string instrument ever!!!!(* Cept for Yo-Yo Ma) UNCLE JUJU was going to share the stage as well so I can honestly say I was ...EXCITED!!! THE DOPE MUSIC + GOOD CAUSE show was being held at 1 of the coolest places for underground music THE GROG SHOP.

When I finally arrived at THE GROG SHOP, there were a few acts doing what can only be described as "a lil bit to much". I macked the bar a lil, and even smirked when some baked dude tried to pass off a fake $50 bill. (*nope he didn't get caught...he took off running)The crowd was just starting to expand. It was difficult to assign "fans" to each individual artist performing. I mean there were sooooooo many different kinds of individuals , and they were all vibing out to each performance. Sometimes when you are at a venue, you can kinda "stereotype" who's to see who. Yet this DOPE MUSIC+GOOD CAUSEseemed to unite all types of fans, and sounds. UNCLE JUJU did his thing. Then HUMBLE G THA FIDDLA showed his as* on his fiddle!!! It never get's old wacthing him perform. His bow hairs were shredding and gently flying in the air, and he captivated the crowd as usual with his street style, and classical hip-hop musical transThe show was already moving at a smooth pace...kinda like when you ride your bike on new pavement...yeah like that.

When ADUBB stepped onto the stage I was staring with anticipation, cuz I was excited to see him perform live , knowing how hard he's been grindingADUBB was slim, and his speaking voice reminded me of other rappers who's voice doesn't really match their "music voice". Yet ADUBB had the crowd rocking!!!! He slowly started to warm uphe shook his dredsand he covered the stage. He had the crowd asking "GOT WORK"The crowd embraced him and I was thinking "damn this dude is a champ!". After he got off stage I will admit...I didn't wanna just blow down on him, but it was ADUBB and in despite of all the sweat and all he siad "Come on, let's take these pics"...and since I had just invested in an expensive camera, I looked around the bar and realized no 1 was worthy enough to touch it (*headroll fingasnap). ADUBB looked at me and said "who gon take the pics?", and I turned the camera to face us....and before I could say it...ADUBB answered his own question in my ear by saying ..."ok then... SELFIE!!!

   PaperPaulk.com

After running to my car to put my "GOT WORK" tee safeley away that  ADUBB had given to me I returned inside THE GROG SHOP to see PAPER PAULK chilling against the rails next to the stage. I gently but firmly wiggled and pushed my way thru the crowd of twerking white chics (*they were everywhere...that damn Miley) and the largest group of bearded men I had ever seen. The dudes were rocking major fits, and dope beards. By this point the crowd had somewhat meshed together. PAPER PAULK hit the stage and a million thoughts began to run thru my mind!!!! First off, he was solid! I mean like he was dark, and tall, and solid. Soon as he stepped to the front of the stage the whole crowd started to move in closer with him. PAPER PAULK was mos def different from any performer I had seen. He was sooooooo smooth, and he was clean as fugggg". Like that classicmature clean, fresh fly...basically looking like a million bucks. His leather kangol was the perfect accessory to his fit. PAPER PAULK must have performed for 15 mins, and the whole time he was sharing his music, the crowd seemed to soak it all up. I was thinking "damn....I wonder why I have never seen him before". That's when PAPER PAULK decided to take a moment and thank everyone. He also said "yoooo this is my 1st time performing live ever"!!! Yeah...he said it!!!!! I was shocked! I mean....this dude was clearly ready to perform, as if he practiced, or maybe was just born to do it. His stage performance reminded me of Jay-z, *ya know that cool laid-back, strong delivery. Towards the end of his performance I looked around, he was closing out his show and before I knew it, the team of bearded men had jumped on stage, and were surrounding PAPER PAULK with heavy dap, and major love. They seemed not to be "fans" but genuine "friends" that seemed to be perfectly ok with letting their friend have his moment. PAPER PAULK's music was a great introduction to exactly who he is.

The Grog Shop was blessed with DOPE MUSIC+GOOD CAUSE. Seeing ADUBB DA GAWD perform left me feeling motivated inside. He proved that if you want it, you can mos def go and get it. He showed that you can rock with a team, and still stand out as an individual. UNCLE JUJU got me hip to his music, and I love new music. HUMBLE G THA FIDDLA showed out, and had people" staring in awe like "wow, this young black guy, is a classical genius"PAPER PAULK told a story, about where he came from , how he got to where he is now, and his plans for his musical future, and yes...we learned all of that from his 1st live performance ever!!!!! That's the beautiful thing about music. GOOD CAUSE + GOOD MUSIC can make fans, become fans ...of other fans favorite artists!!! XOXO
